The Toy Safety Directive- 88/378/EEC was first came into existence on 1 January 1990 and since then it is protecting consumer health. This directive includes areas that are a common source of danger such as Chemical properties, Physical & Mechanical Properties, Hygiene, Radioactivity and Flammability. The manufacturer ensure that the products must be certified as safe before entering into the European Market and must meet the requirements under directive.

The CE Marking for Toys empowers the EU member to take necessary steps in regards to any type of injury caused by a toy. All the manufacturers are legally obligated to make sure that their products and services within the limits of Toy Safety Directive requirements. This directive helps people in informing the authorities about hazardous effects of the toy.
